William H. Macy is an American actor.

Biography[]

Born William Hall Macy Jr. in Miami, Florida, he studied at Goddard College where he studied under David Mamet, who had him appear in his plays American Buffalo and The Water Engine. He began his screen career playing small roles on television and in films, the largest of which being that of Jerry Lundegaard in Fargo, which helped him become a bankable star. This led to him appearing in films such as Mr. Holland's Opus, Boogie Nights and Seabiscuit.

Macy gained great acclaim for his television role as Frank Gallagher in Shameless, and would later direct two films, Rudderless and The Layover respectively.

Macy sang part of the song "Come Make the Most of Your Life" in The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue and frequently sang on Shameless, with numbers including "I Will Survive" and "First Time I Ever Saw Your Face."
