Viggo Mortensen is an American actor and singer/poet.

Biography[]

Born in New York City, Mortensen acted on stage in the 1980s and received acclaimed for his role in Bent in 1987. He began to make appearances in such films as Carlito's Way, G.I. Jane and The Prophecy before being cast as Aragorn in the internationally acclaimed The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Mortensen continued to make film appearences in Hidalgo, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award and The Road. He also ran Perceval Press Publishing and wrote several books and poems.

Singing[]

Mortensen only sang in one film, in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, where he sings "Aragorn's Coronation."

However, Mortensen's career as a musician includes several albums, most of which were spoken word poetry, though they included Pandemoniumfromamerica, a collaboration with Buckethead and several of his costars from The Lord of the Rings.
