Tony Robinson is an English actor and historian.
Biography[]
Born in Homerton, London, Robinson appeared in repertory theatre and on the West End after studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He appeared in the series Doctor in Charge and Sam on Toff's Island, but would rise to prominence after being cast as the increasingly dimwitted Baldrick in Blackadder.
Robinson later became a frequent contributor to children's programming, featuring in such series as Nellie the Elephant, reading a number of audiobooks by Terry Pratchett as well as writing sixteen children's books of his own. He later became known for his work on historical series such as Time Team and was knighted in 2013 for his public activism.
Singing[]
Robinson made his singing stage debut in the original cast of Oliver!, where he appeared in the ensemble as a workhouse boy and member of Fagin's Gang respectively before appearing as Nimming Ned in the 1968 revival of The Beggar's Opera.
As an adult actor, Robinson appeared as Angel Chicago in the original Chicester production of Follow the Star. He made his sole singing role onscreen as the Sheriff in Maid Marian and Her Merry Men, but later appeared as himself performing "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat" in on the ITV special All Star Musicals.
