Telly Savalas was an American actor and singer.
Biography[]
Born Aristotelis Savalas in Garden City, New York, he studied at the Columbia University School of General Studies and began his acting career on radio whilst serving in the Second World War. He made his screen debut on television in 1958 and subsequently made numerous television appearances on such shows as The Fugitive, Bonanza and his most famous role as Lieutenant Theo Kojak in Kojak.
Savalas also appeared in many motion pictures, playing Pontius Pilate in The Greatest Story Ever Told and Ernst Stavro Blofeld in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. He also appeared in the war films The Dirty Dozen and Kelly's Heroes.' '
He passed away in 1994.
Singing[]
As well as his acting roles, Savalas released a number of albums, beginning with This Is Telly Savalas and including Who Loves Ya Baby, which referenced his titular role in Kojak. Savalas also sang onscreen, singing "There's No Way Home" as the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland.
