The Golden Throats Wiki

Taylor Holmes was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Holmes began his career as a vaudeville actor in 1899 and went into straight acting in London, following an appearance in Candida and a Broadway debut in the controversial Sapho.

Holmes made his screen debut in the 1917 silent short Efficiency Edgar's Courtship and soon became a prolific screen actor throughout the silent era and through to the advent of sound, where he notably appeared in Joan of Arc and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. He made his final screen appearance where he did the final voice of King Stefan in Sleeping Beauty, replacing Hans Conried, who acted as a live action reference for the character and possibly voiced Lord Duke in the same film.

Holmes passed away in 1959.

Singing[]

Holmes appeared in a number of stage musicals, beginning with the role of Billy Getaway in Somewhere Else. This was followed by his being cast in the original productions of Say When and I'd Rather Be Right.

In addition to his stage musical roles, Holmes also sang in his final film role in Sleeping Beauty, performing the duet "Skumps".
