Sydney Greenstreet was an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in Sandwich, Kent, he took acting lessons whilst working in a brewery and made his stage debut in 1902. He stayed on the stage for the majority of his career, taking on roles in shows including Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew and The Seagull. In 1941 he made his screen debut as Kasper Gutman in The Maltese Falcon.
Greenstreet became more closely associated with film from this time on, appearing in Casablanca, Passage to Marseille and Malaya amongst others. He also played the lead character in the radio series The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe.
Greenstreet passed away in 1954.
