Steve Coogan is an English actor and comedian.
Biography[]
Born in Middleton, Lancashire, he studied at Manchester Polytechnic School of Drama before going on to perform as a comedian and impressionist, often working on Spitting Image. He was co-awarded the Perrier Award and went on to appear on such shows as On the Hour, The Day Today, Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, developing the character of inappropriate interviewer Alan Partridge, who he would resurrect for a second show and later the film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa in 2013.
Coogan also appeared in such series as Dr. Terrible's House of Horrible, Saxondale and The Trip, as well as providing voices for episodes of I Am Not An Animal, Neighbours From Hell and The Simpsons. Though he had roles in comic films including The Parole Officer and A Cock and Bull Story, Coogan gained a reputation for serious acting after working in such films as Philomena, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, and Stan & Ollie, which gained him a BAFTA nomination.
Singing[]
After singing an ABBA Medley in Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, Coogan sang part of "Friends Is What We Is" in The Wind in the Willows, several songs during his title role in the television film The Tony Ferrino Phenomenon (which appeared on the tie-in album Phenomenon) and appeared on the soundtrack for the comedy Hamlet 2.
