Sheila Hancock is an English actress.
Biography[]
Born in Blackgang on the Isle of White, she studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and was a performer in repertory theatre before making her West End debut in Breath of Spring in 1952. Following this, her stage appearances were largely in musicals (though she appeared on Broadway in a production of Entertaining Mr Sloane) and she made a large number of television appearances including Now Take My Wife (where she played the lead), Bleak House and Delicious.
Hancock also had roles in (among others) films such as Carry on Cleo, The Wildcats of St. Trinian's and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. She provided the voice of Granny Weatherwax in the animated film Wyrd Sisters, worked on the radio show North by Northamptonshire and presented a number of documentaries including Suffragette Citty, Prespectives: Sheila Hancock - The Brilliant Bronte Sisters.

Hancock made one of her earliest stage appearances playing Gwen in make me an offer. She would later to go on to be the original London actress to play Miss Hannigan in Annie and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street respectively. She would win and be nominated for Oliver Awards her roles as Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret and Mother Superior in Sister Act.
