Rupert Everett is an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in Burnham Deepdale, Norfolk, Everett had a difficult youth, but eventually found work at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow.
He came to prominence in the play and film Another Country, followed by his role as Ruth Ellis' boyfriend in Dance With a Stranger. My Best Friend's Wedding marked him out as a bankable star. He appeared in a wide range of films and stage plays, including Pygmalion as Professor Higgins and Inspector Gadget as the diabolical Sanford Scolex/Claw.
As well as acting on stage and screen (and popularly lending his voice to Prince Charming in the Shrek series), Everett has been a writer (for both magazines and his own memoirs) and a presenter of several documentaries, notably one on the explorer Sir Richard Burton.
Singing[]
As well as releasing the album Generation of Loneliness and duetting with Robbie Williams on Swing When You're Winning, Everett sang in a number of films, on two occasions performing duets with Colin Firth; firstly as Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest and secondly in the drag role of Camilla Fritton in St. Trinian's.
He also sang "I Say a Little Prayer" in My Best Friend's Wedding, and twice sang the standard "I Can't Smile Without You" in Unconditional Love, in which he played Dirk Simpson, the lover of a closeted lounge singer.
