Robert Helpmann was an Australian actor.
Biography[]
Born Robert Helpman in Mount Gambier, South Australia, he began as a dancer, working with Sheila Pavlova's ballet company in 1926 and later the Sadler's Well Company, with whom he would play the lead in Sleeping Beauty. He would go on to become a producer and choreographer.
Helpmann also acted in a number of films, his most notorious role being The Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang. He also appeared in The Red Shoes and Don Quixote, with a memorable stage appearance in Cobra, playing Lord Alfred Douglas.
Helpmann passed away in 1986.

Helpmann sang in both films and stage productions, with several comic numbers as The Mad Hatter in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. He also made two 1982 stage appearances in Colette and Valmouth respectively.
