Richard Mulligan was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in The Bronx, New York, he made his Broadway debut in 1960 with All the Way Home and his screen debut in 1963. He had an early leading role in the television series The Hero and continued to make guest appearances appearances in shows including Gunsmoke, I Dream of Jeannie and Bonanza. However, his two most successful television series were Soap and Empty Nest, both of which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award.

As well as his television successes, Mulligan also appeared in films including Little Big Man, S.O.B. and Teachers. He returned to the stage a number of time playing roles in plays such as A Thousand Clowns, Ring Around the Bathtub and Special Occasions and provided the voice of Einstein in Oliver & Company.

Mulligan passed away in 2000.
