Prunella Scales is an English actress.
Biography[]
Born Prunella Illingworth in Sutton Abinger, Surrey, she became a stage manager in 1951 and had an early film role in Hobson's Choice, followed by several others including in The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne, Stiffer Upper Lips and Howards End.
Scales was best known for her role as Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, but also appeared in drama series such as The Shell Seekers and the documentary Great Canal Journies with her husband Timothy West. On stage, she appeared in Carrie's War, and later Agatha Christie's A Pocket Full of Rye.
