Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Fairport, New York, he attended the New York State Summer School of the Arts and the Circle in the Square Theatre before making his screen debut in Law & Order and appeared in early films such as Scent of a Woman, Nobody's Fool and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Hoffman also made appearances on stage with the LAByrinth Theatre Company and the New York Theatre Workshop and more mainstream movies including Twister and Boogie Nights.

Hoffman soon began to earn critical success, receiving Tony Award nomination for True West and Long Day's Journey Into Night. Onscreen he gained recognition for Capote (gaining an Academy Award for fis leading role) and gaining a second Award nomination for Charlie Wilson's War. He would appear in the comedies Along Came Polly and The Boat That Rocked, his final film role coming with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.

Hoffman passed away in 2014.
