Peter Lorre was an Austro-Hungarian actor.
Biography[]
Born Lászlo Löwenstein in Rózsahegy, Austria-Hungary, he began his acting career onstage alongside Richard Teschner and Bertolt Brecht before becoming infamous for his portrayal of a child murderer in M. He left Germany to flee the Nazis in 1933 and made his first Englush language film, The Man Who Knew Too Much.
Lorre soon became popular internationally, appearing in such films as Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon. Whilst frequently cast in menacing roles, Lorre also made a successful career in comic pictures including Arsenic and Old Lace, and notably became the first actor to portray a James Bond villain in the television production of Casino Royale.
Lorre passed away in 1964.

Lorre had a handful of singing roles in films such as Monte Carlo Madness and guest hosted and episode of The Jack Benny Program in which he sang the comic song "I Want a Girl Just Like the One That Murdered Dear Old Dad."
