Paul Winfield was an American actor.
Biography[]
Born in Dallas, Texas, he made his first screen appearance in 1965 and became known to audience when he played Paul Cameron in Julia. In 1978, he was nominated for Emmys for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in King and Roots: The Next Generation as well as winning one for Picket Fences in 1995.
Though usually a character actor, he achieved an Academy Award nomination for his role in Sounder. He also appeared in films including The Terminator, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Mars Attacks, and provided voices for Spider Man: The Animated Series and The Simpsons (as Lucius Sweet, a parody of Don King, who he had played in the miniseries Tyson.). Winfield also performed on stage in the Broadway play Checkmates.
Winfield passed away in 2004.
