Paul Reubens was an American actor and comedian.

Biography[]

Born Paul Rubenfeld in Peekskill, New York, he worked in the comedy troupe The Groundlings, which he developed his well known character Pee-Wee Herman, who appeared in television shows and feature films, as well as being the character Reubens would appear as during most interviews.

Reubens also appeared in a number of films, including Mystery Men, Blow and Matilda and guest roles in Pushing Daisies and 30 Rock. He also worked as a voice actor, playing Lock in The Nightmare Before Christmas and Bat-Mite in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, amongst others.

Reubens sadly passed away on July 30th 2023 to cancer which he privately had for 6 years.

Singing[]

Reubens frequently sang onscreen, often when playing Pee Wee Herman, including in the film Big Top Pee-Wee (performing, among others "The Girl On the Flying Trapeze") and Christmas at Pee-Wee's Playhouse, as well as well guest appearances where he played the character, such as during the song Sesame Street, Special.

Outside of the Herman role, Reubens sang "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" and "Hail to Mr. Oogie" in The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge, and "I'm Movin" in Teacher's Pet.
