Paul Merton is an English comedian

Biography[]

Born Paul Martin in Parsons Green, London, he made his screen debut on The Young Ones, began as a stand-up comedian at The Comedy Store and had his breakthrough after appearing on Whose Line Is it Anyway? He also became well known as one of the team captains on Have I Got News For You and ran his own show, Paul Merton: The Series.

In 1999, Merton became the host of Room 101 and also hosted a number of travel documentaries, as well as a series on the evolution of silent comedy. He was also s regular on the series The Big Fun Show and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.

Singing[]

Merton performed in all four of the ITV pantomimes, singing in the finale numbers of Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Aladdin and Dick Whittington. He was also a frequent guest on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, in which he performed in a variety of musical rounds.
