Paul Lynde was an American actor and comedian.
Biography[]
Born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, he studied drama at Northwestern University before becoming a stand-up comic, later making his Broadway debut in the musical comedy revue New Faces of 1952. Lynde soon became a regulat on a number of variety shows including The Perry Como Show and Hollywood Squares (where he served as the centre square) and appeared as a guest star in such sitcoms as The Flying Nun, I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched.
Lynde also worked as a voice actor for such cartoons as The Perils of Penelope Pitstop and Where's Huddles?, as well as voicing the rat Templeton in the 1973 adaptation of Charlotte's Web.
Lynde passed away in 1982.
Singing[]
Lynde sang on both the stage and screen, appearing as police chief Tiger Brown in The Threepenny Opera and originating the role of Harry MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie, a character he reprised for the film adaptation. He also duetted on "A Fair is a Veritable Schmorgasboard-orgasboard-orgasboard" in Charlotte's Web and sang several songs on The Paul Lynde Halloween Special.
