Paul Henreid was an Austrian-born American actor.
Biography[]
Born Paul von Hernried in Triest, Austria-Hungary, he began his career as a stage actor, and later appeared in German films. He began to gain success in English speaking productions such as Night Train to Munich before reaching his height as Jeremiah Durrance in Now, Voyager and Victor Laszlo in Casablanca.
Henreid continued to appear in films in the Forties and Fifties, including Of Human Bondage and Deception but, after protesting against the House American Committee, was blacklisted. Following this, Henreid more commonly appeared as a director, including the film Dead Ringer and episodes of Maverick and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Henreid passed away in 1992.

Henreid sang in two films, leading the patrons of Rick's in a rousing rendition of "La Marsellaise" in Casablanca and in a more raucous tavern song "Rolling Home" in Stolen Face.
