Omar Sharif was an Egyptian actor.
Biography[]
Born Michel Chalhoub in Alexandria, Egypt, he studied acting at the London Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his film debut in The Blazing Sun in 1954. He appeared in numerous foreign language films including Our Beautiful Days, Sleepless and Nahr el hub before his breakout role as Sherif Ali in Lawrence of Arabia, which earned him an Academy Award nomination.
Sharif went on to play supporting roles in Behold a Pale Horse and The Yellow Rolls-Royce as well as the title roles of Genghis Khan and Doctor Zhivago. He then began to appear in smaller films including Che!, The Appointment and The Baltimore Bullet, not playing another majorly acclaimed role until Monsieur Ibrahim in 2003.
Sharif passed away in 2015.
