Murray Melvin is an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in Hampstead, London, he attended the City Literary Institute and studied drama, mime and classical ballet. After working as a stage manager he made his first stage appearance in Macbeth in 1957 and made a theatrical breakthrough working in Joan Littlewood's productions of The Hostage and A Tase of Honey. Melvin reprised the latter role for the film adaptation, receiving a nomination for best newcomer at the BAFTA Awards.
As well as his stage roles, Melvin would appear in such varied films as Alfie, The Devils and The Phantom of the Opera, as well as making television appearances in The Tyrant King, Jonathan Creek and Torchwood.

Melvin appeared with Joan Littlewood's company as a Pierrot in the original production of Oh! What a Lovely War, as well as playing Alphonse in the film version of The Boy Friend.
