Miriam Margolyes is an English actress.
Biography[]
Born in Oxford, she was a member of the Cambridge Footlights and gained initial work as a voiceover artist, where she dubbed several characters in the anime series Monkey. She appeared in the first two series of Blackadder (as well as the Christmas special) and had a major role in The Life and Loves of a She-Devil.
Margolyes appeared in a number of films, as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter series, Romeo + Juliet and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. On stage, she performed the one-woman show Dickens' Women and appeared in the plays She Stoops to Conquer, The Importance of Being Earnest and The Lady in the Van.

Margolyes appeared as Yente in Fiddler on the Roof and was the original actress to play Madame Morrible in the West End production of Wicked. She also played the Duchess in Me and My Girl and appeared as Prudence in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.
