Michael Palin is an English actor and travel writer.

Biography[]

Born in Broomhill, Sheffield, Palin acted from an early age before studying at Oxford and going on to write and perform in such television programmes as The Ken Dodd Show, The Frost Report and At Last the 1948 Show. It was it this time that Monty Python was formed, with Palin playing many characters in the television series Monty Python's Flying Circus and the various films that would follow.

Outside of his work with Monty Python, Palin acted in such films as Brazil, A Fish Called Wanda and The Death of Stalin, as well as providing a voice for the film Arthur Christmas. He also became a hugely successful travel writer and presenter since the documentary Around the World in 80 Days in 1988, wrote a number of children's books and the short play The Weekend. In 2019 he received a knighthood for his services to culture.

Palin sang many times during his work with Monty Python (having written many of their songs), notably playing the wannabe lumberjack in "The Lumberjack Song" and the Father who explains that "Every Sperm is Sacred" in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.
