Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is an American actress.
Biography[]
Born in Lombard, Illinois, she studied at the University of Illinois before making her Broadway debut in 1980 and screen debut in 1983's Scarface, playing Gina Montana. She would later gain prominence and an Academy Award nomination for her part in The Color of Money.
Mastrantonio would make a number of major screen appearances, including Maid Marian in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and also several straight theatre roles (though she was best known for musicals) such as Viola in Twelfth Night and Princess Katherine in Henry V.
Singing[]
Mastrantonio has a wide array of singing credits, having made her Broadway debut understudying the role of Maria in West Side Story. From here, she originated a number of roles in several shows, including Dora Spenlow in Copperfield and Bess Macauley in The Human Comedy.
Mastrantonio also displayed her singing voice in two of her film roles, The January Man and, more notably in Limbo. She later received a Tony Award nomination for the role of Aldonza in Man of La Mancha.
