Born in New York City, Dawson appeared in a number of stage musicals.
Dawson passed away in 2007.

Originating the roles of Buddy McGraw in Dancing in the Streets and the Herald in By Jupiter, Dawson also appeared in the original productions of High Button Shoes (as Hubert), Great to Be Alive (as Vince) and Me and Juliet (as Juliet).
Dawson later appeared in such musicals as Annie, Get Your Gun, Fiorello! and Prettybelle.
