Leonard Rossiter was an English actor.


Born in Wavertree, Liverpool, Rossiter served in the Army and served as an insurance clerk before beginning to serve with community drama groups, later touring with The Iceman Cometh before joining Bristol Old Vic, giving critically successful performances in The Caretaker and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui (as the title character).

He made his first major film appearance as the undertaker in Billy Liar, and later played Mr. Sowerberry in Oliver! His best known roles came on television, playing Rupert Rigsby in Rising Damp and the title character in The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin. He also wrote two successful comic books, and voiced Boot the Dog in The Perishers.

Rossiter passed away in 1984.


Rossiter's only singing role came playing a reporter in the musical Free as Air, where he sang the trio "Geraldine".
