Lee Van Cleef was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Somerville, New Jersey, Van Cleef initially worked in the Navy and received a number of medals and got into stage acting upon his discharge, noticeably appearing in Mister Roberts which got him cast as the villainous Jack Colby in High Noon. He would go in to appear in a number of films and television shows, frequently as villains.

Van Cleef's career hit its heights after appearing in Sergio Leone's For a Few Dollars More (as Colonel Mortimer) and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (as The Bad). This resulted in a new career direction as a star of "spaghetti" westerns, notably The Big Gundown and the Sabata series. He would also appear in Escape from New York and the television series The Master.

Van Cleef passed away in 1989.

Van Cleef sang in two of his films, performing the title song and "Blood Money" in Captain Apache and singing "Rye Whiskey" in the action film Blood Money, in which he played the role of Dakota.
