The Golden Throats Wiki

Keira Knightley is an English actress.

Biography[]

Born in Teddington, London, Knightley gained an agent at the age of six and appeared in a number of advertisements and television roles before her first major part as Sabé in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. She made her breakthrough soon after and became internationally recognised for her appearances in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Though following this up with a number of action roles, Knightley became recognised as playing roles in period costume dramas such as Pride and Predjudice and The Duchess. She made an impressive stage debut in The Misanthrope which gained her an Olivier Award nomination, and received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in The Imitation Game.

Singing[]

Knightley's breakthrough role in Bend It Like Beckham yielded her first singing part as well, as a backing vocalist on "Hot, Hot, Hot". She followed this singing the pirate songs "A Pirate's Life for Me" and "Hoist the Colours" in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Greater singing parts would appear in the form of The Edge of Love, where she played Vera Phillips, a singer seeking the romantic affections of Dylan Thomas, and Begin Again, in which she played Gretta James, a talented but struggling singer-songwriter.
