Kathy Bates is an American actress.
Biography[]
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Bates made her film debut in 1971, and went on to appear in a number of stage plays, earning a Tony nomination for her role in "'night Mother." She first gained major recognition (and an Academy Award nomination) for her role as Annie Wilkes in Misery. Soon after, she gave an acclaimed performance in Fried Green Tomatoes.
Bates appeared in a mixture of both serious and comic roles, from the blockbuster Titanic, Primary Colors (for which she received her second Academy Award nomination) to the comedy About Schmidt (gaining her third.) She also appeared in a number of television shows including Six Feet Under and 3rd Rock from the Sun, ultimately receiving twelve Emmy nominations for various projects.

Bates performed in several of her films, including her debut, Taking Off. Notably, she played Miss Hannigan in the 1999 version of Annie.
Bates also sang briefly in Relative Strangers (in the duet "Can't Tell the Difference") and A Little Bit of Heaven, as well as in her long-running role in Harry's Law.
