Karl Malden was an American actor.
Biography[]
Born Mladen Sekulovich in Chicago, Illinois, he began acting in his father's plays at church as well as productions in college before his Broadway debut in 1937. He made his film debut in They Knew What They Wanted but gained plaudits (and an Academy Award) for his role as Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire.
Malden would appear in many classic films throughout his career, including On the Waterfront, Baby Doll and Patton, in which he played General Omar Bradley. He also had a successful role on television as Inspector Steve Keller in The Streets of San Francisco.
Malden passed away in 2000.
Singing[]
Malden sang in three films, starting with How the West Was Won in which he sang the traditional piece "Home in the Meadow." He had a large singing role in Gypsy but his number ("Together, Wherever We Go") was cut before release. He finally performed Lewis Caroll's "The Walrus and the Carpenter" in the 1985 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.
