John Moffatt was an English actor.

Biography[]

Born in Badby, he began his stage career in repertory before playing roles in Tartuffe and Point of Departure respectively. He later had greater roles in A Winter's Tale and The Apple Cart, as well as winning an award for his erformance in 1962's Play. He would continue to give acclaimed performances in The Bed Before Yesterday and The Way of the World.

Moffatt had a few minor roles in films and television, but gained his greatest recognition on radio portraying Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot in twenty-five adaptations of her stories.

Moffatt passed away in 2012.

Moffatt sang in one of his favourite roles, as Lord Foppington in the comedy musical Virtue in Danger. He was also a prominent player in the revue Cowardy Custard.
