John Lithgow is an American actor.
Biography[]
Born in Rochester, New York, Lithgow studied at both Harvard and the London Academy of Dramatic Arts before making his Tony and Drama Desk Award winning Broadway debut in 1973's The Changing Room. He would later branch out into films and receive a Best Supporting Actor nomination for The World According to Garp and Terms of Endearment.
Whilst continuing to appear in such films as Footloose and Twilight Zone: The Movie, Lithgow also appeared in a number of television shows, most prominently as Dr. Dick Solomon in 3rd Rock from the Sun. He also worked as a voice actor, and played the diminutive Lord Farquaad in Shrek.
Singing[]
A veteran singer of both the stage and screen, Lithgow made his musical debut in the play Spokesong and later sang a number of times in his roles on 3rd Rock from the Sun and Dexter.
Lithgow's most prominent singing roles were on stage however, originating the roles of J.J. Hunsecker in Sweet Smell of Success and Lawrence Jamieson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
