John Bowe is an English actor.

Biography[]

Born in Greasby, the Wirral, he began acting onscreen from a young age, making his debut in Love Story in 1964. He would go on to appear in various serials and drama series, including Hard Cases and The Prince and the Pauper before his role as George Marlowe in Prime Suspect and the unfortunate Duggie Ferguson in Coronation Street.

Bowe also made a number of appearances in films; including The Living Daylights and Resurrected. More prominent were his roles onstage, performing St. Joan and Cyrano de Bergerac as well as a several plays with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Singing[]

Bowe made his stage musical debut playing The Tin Man (and his Kansas counterpart Hickory) in The Wizard of Oz. During his role in Prime Suspect, he sang several duets including "Love Me Tender."

After several decades away from musicals, Bowe took up the role of Bob in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and would later play the sinister Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
