Joe Mantegna is an American actor.
Biography[]
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947, Mantegna studied acting at the Goodman School of Drama whilst playing bass with The Apocryphals. He began his acting career on stage, making his Broadway debut in Working, and winning a Tony Award for his role in Glengarry Glen Ross. He made his film debut in 1977 and appeared in such films as House of Games, Things Change and The Godfather Part III.
Mantegna played a diverse number of roles in both comedies and dramas, notably playing Dean Martin in The Rat Pack and acting as the voice of Fat Tony in The Simpsons. He also hosted Saturday Night Live, parodying his typical roles in gangster films.
Singing[]
Mantegna had a number of singing roles on stage and screen, appearing in the ensemble of Hair and playing Judas in a Chicago production of Godspell. He also originated the roles of Emilio Hernandez/Dave McCormick in Working.
Onscreen, Mantegna sang in both Underworld and briefly in The Rat Pack (wherein the remainder of his singing was dubbed). His character in The Simpsons, Fat Tony, also sang on occasion, including "Quando, Quando, Quando" and "Let Them Play."
