Joaquin-Romaguera

Joaquín Romaguera was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Key West, Florida, Romaguera is known for his humorous, character roles and primarily operatic style, which was predominant in his musical appearances.

Singing[]

Romaguera began as a professional opera singer, playing the role of Nicolas Orsini in Bomarzo, where a professional actor lip-synched to his voice. That same year he appeared in the new show Nine Rivers from Jordan. Romaguera's greatest contribution to musical theatre came in 1979, originating the role of the flamboyant barber Pirelli in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

He subsequently made two further musical appearances, both in the same year; the Gay Divorce and Mademoiselle Colombe, the former of which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for.
