Jim Broadbent is an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in Holton cum Beckering, England to two amateur actors, Broadbent began at art college before moving on to the London Academy of Dramatic Art. He started his career on the stage often in Mike Leigh productions, and would later play key roles in several of Leigh's films.
In the Nineties, Broadbent became a recognised character actor, in films such as Bullets Over Broadway, before becoming a household name with his Oscar winning turn in Iris . He appeared in both Bridget Jones films and two in the Harry Potter series.
Broadbent also made numerous appearances on television, in comedies such as Blackadder and in dramas such as his acclaimed lead role in Longford.
Singing[]
Broadbent has sang several times in his career, the first time being his largest singing role, as Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge!, though some of his higher notes were dubbed by Anthony Weigh.
Later roles would feature smaller amounts of singing as part of a group, such as the Yorkshire folk song "On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at" in the 2002 film Nicholas Nickleby. He also drunkenly sings "Odo the Hero" in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, along with an equally intoxicated Robbie Coltrane and contributed the song "Blue Moon" to the Children in Need albumGot It Covered.
