Jeanne Crain was an American actress.
Biography[]
Born in Barstow, California, Crain attracted attention whilst performing as an ice skater, and eventually made her first film appearance in The Gang's All Here, though she would first gain acclaim for her appearance in Winged Victory. In 1949 she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role in Pinky.
Crain appear in a wide variety of films, from psychological dramas (Dangerous Crossing) to light-hearted musicals (Gentlemen Marry Brunettes). In 1959 she appeared in a star-studded television broadcast of Meet Me in St. Louis. Crain went into semi-retirement in the 1960s, and made her last film - The Night God Screamed - in 1975.
She passed away in 2003.
Singing[]
Though she was often dubbed over by other performers in singing roles, Crain did sing in one role, as the matriarch Ann Gilbreth in Cheaper by the Dozen and Belles on Their Toes, singing a number of songs with her onscreen family.
