Jason Robards was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born Jason Robards Jr. in Chicago, Illinois to actor Jason Robards Sr., he was a naval officer during the Second World War before becoming a stage and radio actor, winning an Obie Award for his role in The Iceman Cometh. He had further success with the plays of Eugene O'Neill, notably creating the role of Jamie Tyrone in Long Day's Journey Into Night, ultimately gaining a record eight Tony Award nominations.

Robards also appeared in numerous films including as the anti-hero Cheyenne in Once Upon a Time in the West, as editor Ben Bradlee in All the President's Men and as playwright Dashiell Hammett in Julia, the latter two both earning him Academy Awards.

Robards passed away in 2000.

Singing[]

Robards sang in several films, accompanying Barbara Harris with "Yes, Sir, That's My Baby" in A Thousand Clowns and duetting "Butterfly Mornin's" in The Ballad of Cable Hogue. He also sang "Bye Bye Blackbird" in Melvin and Howard and "Wise Up" in Magnolia.
