James Villiers was an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in London, England, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and made his film debut in Carry on Sergeant in 1958. He became known for his upper-class, distinguished roles including Uncle Bertie in The Amazing Mr. Blunden, Bill Tanner in For Your Eyes Only and Lord Thurlow in The Madness of King George.
Villiers also made a number of appearances on television and radio, playing Colonel Hensman in Brendon Chase, King Charles II in The First Churchills and Roderick Spode in several stories based on the Jeeves and Wooster novels. In later years, he played the speaking role of Mr. Brownlow in Oliver!
Villiers passed away in 1998.
