James Stewart was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Indiana Pennsylvania, he made his stage debut in The Wolves and later appeared in Carry Nation and Divided by Three which brought him to the attention of Hollywood. He made his first film appearances in shows such as Rose Marie, After the Thin Man and Next Time We Love. After this he received his first Academy Award nomination for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Stewart would perform in a number of different genres of film, including westerns (Destry Rides Again), romantic comedy (It's a Wonderful Life) and drama (The Greatest Show on Earth), suspense (Rear Window) as well as appeared onstage in Harvey. He had his last appearence providing the voice of Sheriff Wylie Burp in An American Tail: Fievel Goes West.

Stewart passed away in 1995.
