James Caan was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in The Bronx, New York, Caan studied at the Neighbourhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and initially began as a stage actor before appearing on such television series as The Untouchables and Get Smart. He gained acclaim for his work with Francis Ford Coppola, firstly The Rain Peopleand most notably as Santino "Sonny" Corleone in The Godfather, which became his breakthrough role. He would go on to appear in a number of successful films, including Cinderella Liberty, Misery and Thief, one of his personal favourites.

After a period away from acting, Caan made a successful return, often in comedies such as Mickey Blue Eyes and Elf, playing grizzled crime figures, and also appeared as a voice actor, reprising his role as Sonny Corleone for The Godfather: The Game, and playing Tim Lockwood in the Cloudyy With a Chance of Meatballs series

Singing[]

Caan sang on a number of occasions onscreen, beginning with Funny Lady - the musical sequel to Funny Girl - in which he crooned two solos, and The Killer Elite, where he duetted on "Ramona" with Robert Duvall. He also appeared in another musical film that required several duets, namely playing the role of Eddie Sparks in For the Boys.

Caan sang on fewer occasions later on in his career, but notably performed "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You" in Mickey Blue Eyes, and the comical "Pickle Shanty" in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.
