Jack Elam was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born William Elam in Miami, Arizona, he was an accountant, the manager of the Bel Air Hotel and a member of the United States Navy during the Second World War before his debut in She Shoulda Said No. He would go on to appear in a number of popular television series, frequently as a grizzled villain or sidekick, in such programmes as Gunsmoke, Have Gun - Will Travel and The Twilight Zone.

Though he appeared in Kansas City Confidential and The Cannonball Run amongst others, Elam found his niche in westerns, including High Noon,Support Your Local Gungighters (as well its sequel) and Rio Lobo.

Elam passed away in 2003.

Singing[]

Elam sang twice on television, firstly singing "Across the Rio Grande" in Mackenzie's Raiders and secondly performing "Old-Time Religion" in The Dakotas.
