Irving Jacobson was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jacobson was part of a large family of Yiddish performers, and famously played the comedy character Schnitz'l Putz'l. He portrayed the leading role in the comic film The Great Advisor.

In 1940, Jacobson made his screen debut as David in Eli Eli and and became well known on the English-speaking stage.

Jacobson passed away in 1978.

Singing[]

Though best known for his stage comedy work, Jacobson performed in several musicals and revues, including Go Fight City Hall (alongside nephew Bruce Adler) and most notably Man of La Mancha, where he originated the role of Sancho Panza. That same year he also played the role of The Postmaster in Purple Dust.
