Hattie Jacques was an English actress.

Biography[]

Born Josephine Jaques in Sandgate, Kent, she initially studied dance and performed in amateur theatrical productions, making her screen debut in 1946. She gained prominence in the film Chance of a Lifetime and on radio in Educating Archie and Hancock's Half Hour. Mostly notable however, she was a regular in the Carry On series of films, making fourteen appearances in all.

Jacques frequently performed in light comedies and childrens plays on stage, while making a number of non Carry On appearances in films such as A Christmas Carol,, Watch Your Stern and The Magic Christian.

Jacques passed away in 1980.

Singing[]

As well as briefly singing "I Lift Up My Finger and I Say Tweet Tweet", Jacques also played Mrs. Bardell in the television musical Pickwick.
