Gerard Butler is a Scottish actor.
Biography[]
Born in Paisley, Scotland, Butler studied at the University of Glasgow and was a member of the Scottish Youth Theatre, initially working on stage, then appearing in increasingly larger roles in films such as Tomorrow Never Dies and Tomb Raider 2 before his first featured lead in The Phantom of the Opera. His breakthrough came playing the Spartan King Leonidas in 300.
Butler appeared in a wide variety of films from then on, from action thrillers such as Law Abiding Citizen to romantic comedies (P.S. I Love You.) He also worked as a voice actor, playing the Viking chieftain Stoick in the How to Train Your Dragon films.
Singing[]
Singing in a number of films and television programmes, Butler notably made his singing debut in The Phantom of the Opera, playing the titular character. He the went on to sing a number of songs in P.S. I Love You.
Butler also sang during two television appearances, duetting with the host on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and joining in a rendition of "Beauty and the Beast" on Saturday Night Live. He also sang "For the Dancing and the Dreaming" in How to Train Your Dragon 2.
