Gene Tierney was an American actress.
Biography[]
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Tierney began studying acting in Greenwich Village, and soon accumulated a number of walk-on parts and understudies before gaining large roles in Mrs. O'Brien Entertains and The Male Animal, which led to a successful film contract. She starred in a number of films until her first featured role as Martha Van Cleve in Heaven Can Wait.
Tierney continued to be successful on screen in such films as Laura, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and A Bell For Adano (for which she received an Academy Award nomination). Her acting career later declined due to personal reasons, but she appeared in a number of screen and television roles before her final retirement in 1980.
Tierney passed away in 1991.

Tierney sang in a number of her films (though she was occasionally dubbed), beginning with "Put On Your Old Grey Bonnet" in Rings on Her Fingers, and the duet "I Dreamt I Dwelt In Marble Halls" with Vincent Price in Dragonwyck. A second duet came in The Left Hand of God in 1955, where Tierney played Nurse "Scottie" Scott.
