Gemma Arterton is an English actress.

Biography[]

Born in Gravesend, Kent, she attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and made her stage debut in Capturing Mary. Her first film appearance was in the comedy St. Trinian's (reprising her role as Kelly in the sequel), which heralded a variety of film roles including the comedy The Boat That Rocked, James Bond film Quantum of Solace and the thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed.

Arterton appeared in television (Lost in Austen), stage (Nell Gwyn) and voice roles (Watership Down), though the majority of her roles were in films, including the title roles in comedy Tamara Drewe and action film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Her sister is actress Hannah Arterton.

Singing[]

Arterton sang in several films, performing the solos "The Unquiet Grave" and "Your Baby Has Gone Down the Plughole" in the fantasy horror Byzantium. She also sang the duet "The Most Beautiful Girl" in Song for Marion (as well as performing "Crazy" on the film's soundtrack) and sang "Knock on Wood" in the 2014 picture The Voices. Additionally, she appeared in the principal role of Rita O'Grady in the stage musical Made in Dagenham.
