Frances McDormand is an American actress.

Biography[]

Born in Chicago, Illinois, she studied at the Yale School of Drama and became a stage actress, before making her film debut in Blood Simple, which marked the first of several appearances with the Coen Brothers.

She gained success on stage for her role as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire and onscreen recognition for Academy Award winning turn as Marge Gunderson in Fargo, as well as receiving several nominations, for Almost Famous, Mississippi Burning and North Country. In addition to her dramatic work, she also appeared in comic productions (though often darkly comic) such as Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day and Burn After Reading.

Singing[]

McDormand has sang in two films both released in 2012, as the murderous animal control officer Captain DuBois she performs "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" (which also appears on the film's soundtrack). In Promised Land, she briefly sings "I Saw the Light" as Sue Thomason, wife of the protagonist.
