Eli Wallach was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Wallach studied Method acting at the Neighbourhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, later writing and performing in a satirical whilst serving in the Army, as well as becoming a founding member of the Actor's Studio. He made his Broadway debut in 1945 and won a Tony Award for The Rose Tattoo.

Though he focused early work on the theatre, he made his film debut in 1956 with Baby Doll, going on to appear in such classics as The Misfits, The Lineup and most famously as Calvera in The Magnificent Seven and Tuco Ramirez in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. He also notably appeared as Mr. Freeze in the 1960s Batman series.

Wallach continued to act into the 2000s, making appearances in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps and The Holiday.

He passed away in 2014.

Singing[]

Despite a career that spanned well over half a century, Wallach only had one musical role, playing a number of characters in Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass in 1947. However, he also sang briefly in The Godfather Part III.
