Eileen Brennan was an American actress.

Biography[]

Born Verla Eileen Brennen in Los Angeles, California, she gained early success on stage after appearing in several Broadway musicals, as well as the plays Arsenic and Old Lace and The Miracle Worker. In 1967, Brennan made her film debut in Divorce, American Style.

Brennan's screen appearances would come to include such well received films as The Sting, The Last Picture Show and Private Benjamin, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. She also appeared in the television shows Taxi, 7th Heaven and Will & Grace.

Brennan passed away in 2013.

Singing[]

A frequent performer in musicals in her early career, Brennan originated the roles of Mary Sunshine, Merry May Glockenspiel and Irene Molloy in Little Mary Sunshine, The Student Gypsy and Hello, Dolly! respectively, as well as playing Anna Leonowens in a revival of The King and I.

In addition, she also sang several songs as Elizabeth in the musical film At Long Last Love, and "La Vie En Rose" in The Cheap Detective. In 1982, Brennan appeared in the filmed production of Working, playing the Mill Worker.
